Listen to the body in motion. It is sweating, breathing heavily, exerting itself. Let the runner be your guide.
Go on a journey inside an unfamiliar body and through an unfamiliar place.
You and the runner, terrains mapping over each other.
Run Club is a remote audio performance for one person at a time in which you accompany the performer on a run through the city. The audience is invited to walk – or run along – and the runner becomes a guide through a distant location, and through the experience of running itself.
Run Club aims to explore what kind of proximity, intimacy, and pleasure can be produced by hearing a body exert itself. And equally, to think critically about how and why we value people when they are pushing themselves to their limits. A work about labour and exhaustion, about work and purposelessness, about bodies and place, and about the desire to connect.
Run Club was commissioned by Ongoing Project for their digital festival, Tender Absence. First performances of it take place:
6th & 7th August 2021
17th & 18th September 2021

The project will have a further period of development in Autumn 2021 / Spring 2022 – if you are interested in knowing more about next steps, or programming the piece, you can contact me here.
