Altofest, Naples – like the party has been cancelled

Date : June 13, 2024

This week I’m in Naples, where I’ve been invited to participate in Altofest – a residency and festival situated in domestic spaces.

For Altofest, artists are hosted in the homes of resident citizens, and we live together for two weeks. Artists stay and work in the same space: informal, domestic, daily. We are invited to question and rewrite our work by relying on the elements present in the spaces that host us. I’m here working on like the party has been cancelled, a show I last performed in 2022.

The public programme takes places 19th – 23rd June. All performances are free but reservation is essential because most spaces have limited capacities. Programme (and the full Altofest philosophy) is here on their website: www.teatringestazione.com/altofest.

Dates for my performance are:

like the party has been cancelled
Friday 21st June, 21:30
Saturday 22nd June, 19:30
Sunday 23rd June, 17:30

This is a show about wanting to bring order to mess, and wanting to disrupt order. About wanting to build new things with old shit.

It is a reflection on control, on losing yourself, and on desire. It investigates the conflicting urges to be in control – to have mastery, to be effective – and to lose control – with its evocation of release and freedom. It explores the idea that everything can be reimagined, and then the problem that everything comes to us full with meaning, history, feeling. It asks: what does it mean to know that you want, but not what you want?

‘Like the party has been cancelled’ is a live-collage performance of cut up bodies, grafted animals, half landscapes, recomposed histories, dissected worlds. An intuitive, meditative, image trip, that attempts to burst its own banks and flood the room. With you in it.
