The practice of emptying space
Ways To Submit, which would have been at Festival Theaterformen this year, is a live performance that makes an invitation to the audience to have a physical fight. It asks strangers to be in close physical contact with the performer, and with each other; a work that cannot be performed within the current conditions.
The practice of emptying space is made in response to this impossibility – part archive, part invitation, part meditation on fighting, empty space, and absent bodies. It is an inter-disciplinary reflective essay in three parts: a text, an image series, and an audio work.
SOUNDS
This audio piece is a composition made from recordings of fights from previous performances of Ways To Submit. The current total of fights is 229, though not all of them are heard here.
This piece is 25 minutes long. It is best listened to on a pair of decent headphones. We recommend that you find a comfortable space and take the time to listen to it all the way through.
